There are how many different registries!?!?
The first registry for Gypsy horses is the Gypsy Vanner Horse Society founded by Dennis Thompson and his late wife, Cindy. Dennis and Cindy made the discovery of these magnificant animals and imported the first Gypsy Vanner in 1996. Since then, several different registries have been formed. They are all different registries. But, they represent the same horse. Stillwater Farm's horses are registered withthe Gypsy Vanner Horse Society. They can also be registered with any of the other associations listed below. Different registries support different shows throughout the country. The breed standard differs a bit in each registry. We use the breed standard from the GVHS and you can find it on our website. Hopefully, one day, the different registries will walk a different path and try to work together to bring harmony to all the gypsy horse owners and breeders. It seems the board of directors for each group likes the way things are now. So, you can choose whichever group works best for you. Some groups are more regional, some groups are more social, and some are more philantropic. Do your research!
